Zwingli is 35 years old when he climbs the tower of the big cathedral in Zurich for the first time. He was still a reformer at that age. Zwingli fought strongly against the indulgence, by selling this indulgences the pope earned much money. He used this money to build the Saint-Peters church in Rome. Zwingli warned the people against it, he told the people that the only way to get forgiveness of sins is throught Jesus Christ. The serious preaches were not vainly. It became forbidden for Samson to go into the province of Zurich to sell indulgences. Nevertheless the pope does not excommunicate him, but flattered him. Zwingli did not broke with the Roman Catholic Church and the pope wanted to stay friends with Zwingli. That will not always remain, because Zwingli became Reformed. However, he never broke fully with the Catholic Church.
Zwingli only preached from the scripture, not only some verses, but whole chapters were explained. In the year 1523 Zwingli reads his 67 thesis during a public meeting. In this thesis he explained that Jesus Christ is the only one Who can forgive sins, the purgatory was rejected and that forgiveness can't be given by people was clearly stated. During this meeting, his enemies could not give a proper answer to disprove his articles. After this Zwingli can calmly continue preaching. By this important decision, was the Reformation confirmed in Zurich. The monasteries were made into hospitals and hospices. The holy celebrations and the papal mass became forbidden and was replaced by the Holy Sacrement.
