In the year 1506 Zwingli became a priest in Glarus. After this he left to Einsiedeln.  Above the door of the church, where he going to preach from that moment, is the text: 'Here you can find complete forgiveness of sins, both from guilt and punishment.'  This text was believed by many people, hereby came many people to Einsiedeln, whereby Einsiedeln became a kind of a pilgrimage. The people thought that they will get forgivness here. The priests in Einsiedeln earned much money with this trickery.  Zwingli removed the text and preached against it: 'Christ is our salvation, not Mary!'

The priests were angry at Zwingli and tried to get him away. Zwingli took no notice of them and buried all relics that were kept in Einseideln. The most important thing he did in Einsiedeln was the introduction of reading the Bible by the normal people.

He married without permission of the church with a widow with three children. Zwingli worked in Einsiedeln for three years. In 1519 he left to Zurich.
